Clinical Supervision

What is Clinical Supervision?

  • The practice of clinical social work is restricted to either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or a Licensed Master Social Worker under clinical supervision in employment or under a clinical supervision plan.

  • Clinical social work is defined in the rules at 22 TAC §781.102(12) and includes “using specialized clinical knowledge and advanced skills to assess, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conditions, and addictions…  Treatment methods may include but are not limited to, providing individual, marital, couple, family, and group psychotherapy.” Clinical social workers are qualified and authorized to use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and other diagnostic classification systems in the assessment, diagnosis and other practice activities.

  • An LMSW completes a minimum of 100 hours of face-to-face (or virtual) supervision, over the course of 3000 hours of professional experience, with a board-approved supervisor.

The Clinical Experience

  • The supervisee-supervisor relationship is a special one based on mutual trust and respect. Similarly to how important it is to find the right therapist, the bond with your supervisor can largely shape your clinical experience.

  • I am a Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners approved Clinical Supervisor. I provide supervision with the lens of social justice and cultural understanding. I am relational and often use humor as well. I care about your success and want to support you in navigating challenges.

  • I will be providing a combination of group (1.5 hours/bi weekly) and an individual session every month so you can finish by 2 years. Of course, we can tailor this to what makes the most sense for you.

  • If you’re interested in what my experiences can bring to the table, take a look at my “About” tab.
